Sinar Mas Group, founded in 1938 by Mr. Oei Ek Tjhong (Eka Tjipta Widjaja), a prominent Indonesian Chinese entrepreneur, has grown into a conglomerate comprising hundreds of corporate entities. It was once named Indonesia's largest business group by the renowned financial magazine Forbes. With investments spanning Asia, North America, Europe and Australia, the group has evolved through continuous innovation and development into seven core industries: Pulp and Paper, Financial Services, Agribusiness and Food, Real Estate, Energy and Infrastructure, Telecommunications and Healthcare.
Among its core businesses, the pulp and paper division, Asia Pulp & Paper Co., Ltd. (APP), serves as the flagship enterprise of Sinar Mas Group, through decades of relentless development, APP has grown into the world's leading paper producer. The group operates dozens of pulp and paper manufacturing companies alongside over one million hectares of commercial plantations across Indonesia and China.
To address the surging global market demand for production capacity, serving as the core production base within Sinar Mas Group's global footprint, the Indonesian facility has launched a production line expansion initiative. Driven by its consistent commitment to technological innovation, the group aims to achieve a breakthrough in production capabilities. This expansion focuses on two core objectives: "high-efficiency and energy-saving operations" and "precision control."
For this project, the technical team at Sinar Mas Group's Indonesian plant raised critical demands on motor reliability, operational efficiency, speed control accuracy and post-sales support. In response, the group's procurement and technical divisions conducted a comprehensive evaluation of multiple leading international manufacturers, including ABB, Siemens and TECO.
The evaluation results revealed that the BK series gear motors produced by Wuxi TECO, with their compact structure, high transmission efficiency, exceptional load capacity and smooth operation, perfectly aligned with the demanding requirements of heavy-duty and low-speed pulp processing equipment. Meanwhile, their V series variable frequency motors specifically designed for frequency conversion drives, incorporate premium cold-rolled silicon steel sheets and specialized rotor design which make the motors have wider speed range, excellent low-speed torque performance and efficient heat dissipation, significantly enhancing speed control precision while reducing energy consumption.
TECO motors ultimately were chosen by Sinar Mas Group replying on its top-tier brands technical specifications, superior overall cost-performance, highly responsive localized service and exceptionally stable product quality.
Consequently, Sinar Mas Group placed an order to WEIMA for 43 sets of TECO BK series gear motors (Model 67-107) and 16 pcs of TECO V series variable frequency motors (power range: 37KW-250KW). This batch of motors will be deployed in the core power transmission applications throughout the pulping line, including pulping, screening, conveying and mixing processes etc.. Its stable and efficient running will provide a solid foundation for enhancing pulp quality, production capacity increase and optimizing energy consumption across the entire production line.
Leveraging its strong resource integration capabilities, WEIMA ELECTRIC, partnered with TECO Wuxi factory-a leading domestic motor manufacturer, delivered an integrated solution of combining gear motors and variable frequency motor for Sinar Mas' Indonesian project. Together with the quality assurance provided by Wuxi TECO, WEIMA’s rapid delivery response has received high commendation from Sinar Mas Group.
All equipment in the integrated solution is now operational to accelerate the realization of Sinar Mas' smart manufacturing vision at its Indonesian facility and this transnational innovation chain will continue to provide the global industrial development with “China's collective wisdom and solutions”.
